The pullover has no front placket, so it goes straight over the head and stays put. That makes it the practical choice for younger fastpitch age groups who are changing between games, and for programs that want one less thing for players to fuss with in the dugout.

Pullover or button down?
Button downs read traditional and are what most high school and adult slowpitch teams choose. Pullovers are quicker on and off, sit closer to the body, and are the more common pick at 8U through 14U. Plenty of programs run button downs for the older squads and pullovers for the younger ones using the same artwork, so everything still matches across the club.
